This is hands down the best book for chronic pain that I have read. In my opinion of course.
I’ve spent the last 13 years deep in the search for relief and some sort of roadmap to feel better. I read all the books by Gabor Maté and the Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk. Books on Polyvagal Theory, nutrition, trauma, healing, the brain, the body and the nervous system. You name it, I’ve probably ranted about it. I’ve been in therapy for eight out of the last 10 years and I’m currently albeit slowly, working towards a psychology degree because I’m fascinated by all of it.
So when Mind Your Body by Nicole J Sachs popped up as a new release in my Audible app, my first thought was: “Oh yeah, I already know this stuff.”
But then another thought hit me. You know it… but you’re not doing it. So I downloaded it and WOW!
What’s the best book for healing chronic pain?
“Mind Your Body” by Nicole J. Sachs helps you to connect the dots between unresoved emotional stress and lingeting
I expected to listen passively, maybe get a reminder of what I already knew. But instead, I got called out in the best possible way. Nicole didn’t just confirm what I’d learned, she challenged me to finally do something with it. This book doesn’t let you hide behind your knowledge. It meets you exactly where you are, and it asks for real movement.
From the first few minutes of listening, I felt this rush, a weird mix of excitement and almost urgency. Like, “Why haven’t I heard of Nicole Before and this book?” because here’s the thing: everything she talks about in this book? I’ve learned it. I understand it. But what Nicole has done is taken all the important pieces, just the stuff that actually matters and laid it out in a way that anyone can follow. It’s not overwhelming, it’s structured, it’s clear and it’s doable.
It’s the book I wish had existed back when I was first dealing with the neuropathy pain from chemotherapy and all the anxiety and trauma that came dealing with late stage cancer.
If you’re someone who thinks they’ve tried everything, therapy, somatic work, supplements, energy healing, meditation, but you haven’t read this book, then I hate to say it, but… You haven’t tried everything.
Did you’ve ever sat across from the therapist and said, “just tell me what to do and I’ll do it,” this is that book.
This is that book.
If your buried in unexplained symptoms, stuck in cycles of pain, feeling defeated after seeing every specialist, this might be the thing that finally makes sense to you.
Nicole’s approach, called Journal speech, is something I tried to do every single day. And yes, I still fall into the trap of thinking that because I understand something I’m somehow doing the work. But understanding and doing are not the same.
This book has helped me to actually do. What I learned was, I’m not trying to understand more. I’m trying to express more.
We already accept that stress can cause a headache, or stomach issues, or insomnia. And we get that the mind affects the body. But for some reason, when it comes to chronic conditions or lingering pain. We forget that connection. Or we just don’t believe it applies to us.
But it does.
So in case no one has put this book in front of your face yet, this is me doing exactly that.
